Perimenopause can start sooner than most expect—often in the late 30s to 40s—and it’s driven by shifting hormones that can make cycles and symptoms unpredictable. The average age of menopause in the U.S. is 51–52, and you’re considered in menopause after 12 consecutive months without a period. ACOG+2ACOG+2

What is perimenopause?

Perimenopause is the transition leading up to menopause. It can last up to ~10 years and is characterized by fluctuating estrogen and progesterone levels. Those swings are what drive many symptoms. Common signs include cycle changes, hot flashes/night sweats, joint pain, sleep disruption, brain fog, vaginal dryness/urinary changes, and mood shifts. Yale School of Medicine+1

Why consider hormone therapy (HRT)?

In the last several years, major medical societies have clarified that menopausal hormone therapy is the most effective treatment for hot flashes/night sweats and vaginal symptoms and also helps prevent bone loss—with the most favorable benefit-risk profile in healthy people under 60 or within 10 years of menopause (individualized to your health history). At the same time, HRT can have some risks and downsides. The guidelines vary, so you’ll need an expert like us to evaluate your personal medical and family history and help you weigh benefits and risks for you. Huntington Hospital+2USPSTF+2

Introducing Women’s HRT at Weight Loss NP

We now offer concierge, evidence-based care for perimenopause and menopause—available to eligible clients in Colorado, Utah, and Florida. Your plan may include estrogen and progesterone (and, when appropriate, adjuncts like vaginal estrogen or testosterone), paired with lifestyle guidance and close follow-up.

How care works

  1. Initial consult & baseline labs → we review symptoms, history, and goals.
  2. Personalized plan → medication route (patch, capsule, or compounded cream) and dosing tailored to your needs.
  3. Monthly follow-ups → track progress, adjust dosing, and support sleep, mood, cognition, weight, and bone health.

(Eligibility, route, and dosing are determined by a licensed clinician; some therapies aren’t appropriate for certain medical histories.)

Is it perimenopause—or something else?

Because periods can still occur in perimenopause, symptoms plus pattern changes in cycles often tell the story. It’s best to start treatment in the perimenopausal phase, even though you may still have peroids. ACOG+1

FAQs

When should I seek care?
If symptoms affect your sleep, work, relationships, sexual health, or quality of life, it’s time to talk. Earlier support usually means smoother adjustments. ACOG

Is HRT safe?
For many healthy candidates within 10 years of menopause or under age 60, benefits often outweigh risks when therapy is individualized and monitored. We review contraindications, routes (transdermal vs. oral), and your goals before starting. Huntington Hospital

Do I have to be “in menopause” to start?
No—perimenopausal patients with significant symptoms may be candidates after evaluation. We’ll personalize timing and options. ACOG
